In today’s society we are living a digital revolution. We are living in the age of modern technology. There are many benefits of modern technology; for instance, it is easier to communicate with others from different regions and made work life easier due to the internet. There are also various downsides living in the digital world.
The internet has become our primary source of information and how it affects our ability to read and write. Even though this process may offer knowledge efficiency, it flattens our brain’s learning experience in the process. I myself use the internet and modern technology to my benefit. I use it for school and personal entertainment. For instance, I use social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram, Snapchat, and even Youtube. These platforms are very useful in my everyday life. When using any of theses social media’s I feel that I am connected and aware of what is going on in the world. I’m pretty much addicted to using these platforms.
There are also downsides when it comes to these platforms. Not everything that is seen on the internet is actually real, a lot of the time it is considered as “fake news”. Another example, how much we as a society rely on Google. A lot of the information from Google is not always accurate, we do not always check our facts and automatically assume that the sources we gathered from Google as reliable sources. The same goes for internet posts such as tweets. Twitter is very useful but there are time where it lack substance and that is due to people tweeting pointless irrelevant things.
The media today is only focused on stories that are completely one sided. A perfect example is how the MeToo movement has become very Hollywood. With stories as celebrities coming out with them being sexually assaulted or accusing someone with power for rape. People like Rose McGowan are using this as a opportunity to make it about themselves and playing victim. This is taking away light from regular people who struggle with that fact they were abused and do not have fame and wealth to fall back from. Also how the founder of the MeToo movement Tarana Burke has recently been noticed for efforts in the MeToo movement.
This is a tweet made by Rose McGowan on how upset she was that she was not invited to the Golden Globes so she decided to be petty and tweeted a response to Asia Argento.
